Vision

A vacant commercial property located at 2700 Elm Street was identified as a prime location for the community center. An architect was hired to provide plans and costs for renovation. It was determined that demolishing the old building and constructing a new 6,000 square foot community center would be the most cost-effective way to proceed.

By building this facility, LDC can offer programs and services that will promote and enhance the development of neighborhood children and adults by instilling a sense of pride, usefulness, and belonging. It will be a place where residents of all ages can readily access needed services, build relationships, and find opportunities to be productive and successful as they enhance their personal skills. LDC will continue to expand already existing services such as: individual, family and group counseling; vocational counseling and job placement; intervention services; parenting programs; GED assistance, and so much more. In addition, the center will host recreational programs in the gym and provide meeting rooms for use by community groups.

A functional community center plays a vital role in any broad neighborhood revitalization effort. Successful community development organizations like LDC provide a comprehensive strategy combining all types of private, public, and governmental agencies working together to effect positive changes. This community center will undoubtedly be the focal point of services to the neighborhood.
