Lagrange Development Corporation was forged from the struggles and wishes of many neighborhood residents interested in maintaining and rebuilding the place they call home. Since that time, LDC has been a strong and effective organization committed to revitalization of the Lagrange neighborhood.
It is appropriate to provide a brief profile of the organization's fundamental strengths and resources:
Housing Programs
Over 200 renovated homes
20 newly constructed homes in areas where property values are declining
$300,000 for emergency home repairs
$50,000 in free exterior paint
Over $700,000 in loans to purchase homes (down payment assistance)
$3 million coordinated in loans from commercial lenders to assist neighborhood residents in purchasing a home
Technical assistance to over 800 individuals annually
Business Development
More than 200 businesses in our service area with 75 businesses in the central business district along Lagrange Street
Toledo's first "Main Street" program
Façade improvement grants totaling over $100,000
$600,000 in streetscape improvements in our central business district
Coordinated the establishment of 28 mew businesses over the last two years
Extensive work in filling over 50% of vacant commercial property in the central business district
Community Organizing
Recruited 120 dues-paying members to take on neighborhood challenges
Lobbied city government to demolish 15 nuisance properties
Convinced elected officials to invest an additional $1 million in infrastructure improvements in the Lagrange neighborhood
Increased public safety including five additional police officers assigned solely to the Lagrange neighborhood
Targeted owners of substandard rental properties which resulted in over 30 properties brought up to housing code or nuisance tenants being evicted
Weed and Seed Crime Prevention
Nationally recognized: MetLife Community Policing Partnership Award recipient
Responsible for substantial reduction in neighborhood crime
Fostered positive relationship between residents and law enforcement
Provided individual and family support and services
Improved the quality of life for neighborhood residents
